I got this as part of my preparation for GMAT. After buying a GMAT study guide from another provider I realized I can't even do long division, manual subtraction, prime factorization. So if you are like me and need to start off with something very basic then start here. That being said, it is not just your basic 4th/5th grade math workbook. Every chapter starts off with the basics, then moves on to how that concept will be used in GMAT and builds up from there. If you are weak in Math (or very very calculator dependent) then start here then move on to GMAT study guides like Kaplan or official GMAT guide. I now force myself to do long division in my head or figure out how much a dress will cost me if its 40% off without the help of a calculator.

This review is for kindle edition. Content of the book is good but it simply doesn’t display well on the kindle or in kindle apps on iOS. For instance, exponents and integers tend to be indistinguishable. And the way problems are laid out and diagrammed, they almost always get split between pages or cut off along the edge. I also find myself wanting to write in the margins and solve the end of section questions in the book, but this is not possible on kindle, so either pad and paper or flipping back and forth between a notes app is required. If I had a do-over, I’d trade the kindle version for a physical book in a heartbeat.

I normally doubt myself in Math but the foundations is so so easy that anyone should be able to understand this material (with a decent Math experience with Algebra). I would recommend the Advanced version because that is perfect,harder and inspiring (in terms of how to come with solutions)

The quality and content of the book seems great for my purposes (namely, two months to study for the GMAT when I haven't taken a math class in ten years). However, the Kindle edition is pretty much useless. Even if you enlarge the text and widen the page, there are images that you can't zoom in on that contain important equations (see screenshot of Kindle PC app). And in a math book, that's kind of a deal-breaker. Looking forward to receiving my paperback edition of this wonderful book!

Look up the antonym of Mathematician, and there you'll find my portrait. This book is an absolute prerequisite for a math illiterate like me to even begin to tackle any of the other GMAT study guides (OG, MP). Still a ways away but we'll get there, slowly but surely, with this resource.

I found this book to be an above average resource. Manhattan prep provides good insight and the practice questions are very similar to the real test. Highly Recommended.

Excellent GMAT math review book. This is an instruction math book with practice questions as well.

I love fodors books. You can look through them on the plane or the hotel room and then have fun with flexibility of choosing what you want to do and skip other things. Tip: take a picture with your phone of the things you are planning to do that day and maps so you don't have to carry the book. I love the itinerary ideas and we've always found the "good stuff." Even my cousin who lives in San Francisco was impressed with the cool things we had found in just a few days. I like to make notes in the books for future trips or for suggesting to friends. The fodors app is also great for on the go maps while you are walking, but lacks the cool details in the books. We used these for Italy also. Will always look for them for any trip, even as technology advances.

This book is priceless in helping me figure out when, where and how to go to San Francisco. I have always wanted to go, but never knew how to maneuver the city, where to go, what to see, and where the best hotels were. This book makes it so easy! They even help with itineraries if you only have a few days to explore. Plus, they have tons of hidden gems that the standard vacation-booking websites don't bother to tell you about. Definitely a must for any traveler!

This travel guide is now three years old; it might be useful for the general landmarks but the more detailed info on dining and tourist attraction hours and pricing is out of date. I would recommend going with an alternative guide that is more current or just wait for Fodors to update this to 2018.

The text is too small and the pages are so packed with text that when on the go it is hard to read and if you lose your place good luck we ended up not using it at all not user friendly for a tour guide

Fodors is my “Go -To” travel reference. This edition did not disappoint. I only had 2days in SF, so buying this book in advance helped me to plan my trip so I could make the best use of my time. I had this conveniently on my IPad Kindle for quick reference.

We use these books whenever we travel Europe because they are the perfect guide. This book has been no exception. Great info, good mapping and easy to navigate through. A must have travel companion.

Like all Fodor's travel guides, a good reference guide for tourists unfamiliar with destination. Content well laid out, and included map useful.

Used for my birthday trip to San Francisco...I would recommend it to everyone that wants to enjoy such a fine city. Maps included, ratings of restaurants, tips for the traveler. FANTASTIC!

Decent book describing exactly what the title says. However it's very hard to jump from chapter to chapter as it is not very well labeled. Also I feel that the organization is not conducive to being used in the workplace but more catered to an academic setting.

David Pawson’s prophecy of Islam taking over Britain if the Christians stay complacent is alarming, but you can’t say that it is an impossibility.I dare say that the contents of this books is only for Christians, as there are a host of things that non-Christians might not understand or care about.Yet, I believe that Mr. Pawson has done what he can to explain them when given the opportunity—and he’s done them well, as some of his expositions would be new even to some practicing Christians.

The author does a very good job of laying out the potenitial that Islam has to advance it's agenda. The first half of the book outlines what could happen in the near (5-20 yrs) future. This can be scary to some if you know what the religion wishes to accomplish. However, Mr. Pawson does an excellent job in the later chapters (8- 10) in laying out the christians respones and preparation of what is most likely to come. It allows for the reader to prepare themselves and those of the same faith, primarily the younger generation. There is some very uplifting ideas within the ending chapters with plenty of Biblical scripture to reference.

'Challenge' is the right word for this book. Pawson is careful to listen to the Moslem message, to hold forth Truth, and to challenge Christians to walk in the Truth they proclaim. The book is hope-filled, sensitive, and stays on-topic: Pawson delivers on the title.

Having heard the writer speak on many occasions where I have been deeply impressed with his incisive, penetrating knowledge of Christianity and the manner in which he dissects the written word of the Hebrew-Christian Scriptures, I eagerly purchased this book with a keen sense of anticipation to read the author's personal analysis of Islam.To that end I was initially disappointed when I discovered that the book was not in fact primarily a study of Islam in itself. Having said that, the author does indeed address many of the aspects of Islam and pulls no punches when he describes that the God of the Bible and the god of Islam are definitely NOT one and the same Person.The text revealing in no uncertain terms that the God of the Bible has a Son, Jesus Christ, whereas the god of Islam, Allah, is described as having no son whatsoever. The book is not what some would call "politically correct" and boldly declares that not all religions lead to God with Jesus Christ stating that He is the only "Way, the Truth and the Life" and that "no man comes to God but by Him".The text further expounding that Islam is "false" and will not be able to stand at the return of Jesus Christ when "at the Name of Jesus, every knee will bow". Students of the Bible will recognise these particular quotes quite well.This book is described as specifically being written out of a burden for the Church and as a "wake-up call for Christians" in the face of what is described as the ever increasing expansion of Islam which is cited as "filling the vacuum" left by certain elements of the Church which have suffered the ravages of secularisation and basically turned their backs on God.This study shows clearly where the Church has failed in so many areas and where repentance and renewal are so desperately needed in these last days before the return of Jesus Christ. Materialism, hedonism, consumerism, pluralism, relativism and other being specified as responsible for much of this vacuum which Islam is declared as being "better equipped" to fill during the prevailing conditions at this time. Some might disagree with some observations of the writer, but there is definitely a case to answer here and the book honestly addresses these issues and points the Church in the right direction.The writer addresses the situation primarily in the United Kingdom, but it is clearly evident that the message applies equally throughout the Western World.The book describes how even the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, has been quite open about his sympathy with Islam with reference included to his public suggestion that when he is crowned and also the "head of the Church of England", how he wishes his title to be changed from "Defender of the Faith" to "Defender of Faith", that is of all religions.Another issue addressed in the text is how the media are described as not daring to ridicule Muhammad for fear of offending Muslim sensibilities, whereas it appears to be open season for attacking Christianity and even Jesus Christ Himself. The significance of these issues are dealt with in further detail in the text itself.There is not much reference to the Middle East conflict as such but the troubles there are described as being religious as well as political, spiritual as well as social and theological as well as geographical and involving two Gods as well as two peoples.The message in this book is not so much about Islam as about Christianity. Although not addressed to Muslims, the writer is hopeful that some will read it and that they will come to a knowledge of the Christian Gospel. Instead the book is primarily directed at Christians with a view to encouraging them to study their faith and the way in which they live it out in righteousness and obedience. The book covers the personal reservations of what might face everyone under an Islamic "regime" pointing out that there are more Christian martyrs today than ever before. Most victims described as being in such areas as Southern Sudan, Central Nigeria, Eastern Indonesia and other such areas controlled by a Muslim majority. This is not a scare-mongering book, but a very courageous, significant work which I highly recommend. Thank you.

The first part of the book is a history of the Romanian people, arguing that they have been a continuous ethnic group since their formation by the amalgamation of the Dacians and Roman colonists (mostly retiring soldiers who were granted land in Dacia) at and after the time of the Emperor Trajan's conquest of Dacia around 105CE. The author argues that Dacia remained at least partially Romanized after the evacuation by the Empire in 275CE.Using archeological, linguistic, and literary sources various other theories are considered and rejected.After the Romans, Romania was overrun by nomadic invaders from the east and north more than most: Alans, Avars, Cumen, Khazars, Magyars, Huns, Goths, and even the Mongols overran the place, but the Vlach (old name for Romanians) persevered if often as subject peoples. The story is both tragic and noble.Overall, Part I was a quite interesting illumination of a rather opaque and little known corner of European history.Part II of the book I found less interesting. It is a historiography of the various claims, mostly between the Romanians and Hungarians of who settled where, when. With special attention to building "claims" to Transylvania on behalf of the Hungarians, which the Romanians reject.From context it seems "history" has been a method of "politics by other means" in the region. The history of tendentious tribalism, which still shapes the modern world in that region to some degree, is hard for most of us European-Americans to understand, though I expect our Native Americans have a strong sense of it.The one curious omission from the book is the lack of much DNA evidence. The author is an evolutionary biologist, so one would have thought it natural to look to modern DNA evidence to help sort thru the various necessarily inexact literary, linguistic, and archeological claims.Overall a quite worthwhile read, whether one is interested mostly in the history of the Romanian people or like me someone interested in broadening their knowledge of an obscure bit of Roman and post-Roman history. The book is extensively footnoted in the scholarly fashion, but fortunately the writer has chosen to write in a more popular and accessible style.

This is a good book as a start for learning about Romanian history. It is unabashedly told from the Romanian point of view disproving Hungarian opinions, so for a balanced view it may be good to read Hungarian opinions.Overall though, the author does give very good facts and reasoning for his statements.This is also a very good read, even for a non-historian, while for a historian, this is an engrossing read

Very boring and uninteresting.

Clearly a political book in that it seeks to silence Hungarian claims to Romania. But probably honest and mostly accurate. Good information.

Not much of a story here to make history interesting for me.

Loved it!

As a first exposure to Romanian history, this is well-written and engaging. It answered most of my questions about Romanian history and makes good use of sources, citing them when needed. An extensive bibliography allows the reader to do further reading on the subject. While the book is well-written, but is very poorly copy-edited. It is riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes. Hopefully a new edition will polish out these flaws.

My favorite book about philosophy is one called "The philosophical backstairs", this one comes a booming second. I had fun with the jokes, it made philosophy easy accessible. And to top it off, in my case, I was at the time living with a flat mate who insisted you couldn't read anything in the toilet that was of deeper spiritual content. So having this one there was a great way to circumvent him and use valuable time to read valuable and deeper content. Because the stories and jokes are short, it also was conclusive for the time spent at that location. It turned out to be a popular reason to stop by our house when in town for the necessities.

This book is totally awesome and well worth your time to purchase and READ! In today's hurry, hurry world I still like to just sit and read a real book that can teach me something I didn't know a few minutes ago. Please take the time to instill in your children or Grandchildren the joy of books! They will be much Happier Folks in the future! March 19, 2019

As a technical person, I have tried later in my life to go back and pick up a bit of the humanities -- to try to answer some of those questions we all have about life and living. I started to read and listen to some light reviews of philosophy and see if I could begin to grasp some of the basic questions and perhaps some of the answers. I am almost certain that one cannot do it by self study, but I have listened and read enough to know some of the basic ideas. And on top of that, I love the "man goes in a bar" jokes. Any book which combines two of the things I really enjoy as this book does has to move to the top of my list. When I saw this book I had to have it. I sat done and read it in about an hour and I loved it. I laughed and laughed and I recommend it to anyone looking to dip a toe into philosophy. Serious students will likely scoff at it, but for the rest of us, the ideas are here for the taking. Buy this book.

It's funny but I wouldn't recommend it for any real insights or knowledge. The book lacks structure. It gives a very high overview of different theories, but I don't see the value in this. Maybe, I was looking for something deeper.

Although I felt like a fool sitting here all by myself laughing myself to tears over jokes some of which are older than I am (and that's pretty old), I enjoyed every minute of it. And I think there was a glimmer of understanding regarding philosophy as an added treat. I wish I knew somebody who has the same mind-bend as I so I could recommend this book. Loved it!!

Very cleaver and funny, but look out you actually might learn something. I have it on my kindle and read it randomly while in Doctors reception area and love the looks on the other patients faces as I am laughing out loud ! I mean who laughs at the Doctors !?!

This book is thoroughly entertaining, while yet managing to teach some of the basics of philosophy. This isn't JUST a joke book (though the jokes are great) but you can tell that the authors actually love their subject and want you to learn something about it. You're not going to qualify for a degree in philosophy by reading this, but you're going to absorb some of the concepts and terminology and maybe even be inspired to dig deeper -- while laughing the whole way. It's a masterful piece of writing in that these guys have managed to serve a fairly substantial "meal" in the guise of a light snack -- call it an appetizer. I'd have given it five stars on the basis of entertainment, but gave it four because I wouldn't have minded a little more meat. However, I do recommend it for anyone who would enjoy a "painless" but relatively superficial introduction to philospy and I already bought one copy for a friend.

My husband thoroughly enjoyed the book as a short easy travel read. It presented philosophical perspectives with funny anecdotes to illustrate them.
